The Block Island Housing Initiative announces its first round of grants available to build 513 housing or convert/renovate existing structures.

The grant program will provide up to 30% of the total cost with a maximum grant of $50,000. The purpose of this grant program is to encourage homeowners to make 513 housing (accessory dwelling units) available on their property. This housing must be rented to year-round island residents and conform with Section 513 of the New Shoreham Zoning Ordinance.

The grant application process is as follows:

Preliminary applications due by May 31, 2023 with decisions on second round made by June 15. Applicants whose preliminary applications are approved will proceed with a complete application due by July 1. Final decisions will be announced on July 31.
