Below you will find the applications we use for those interested in adding an Accessory Dwelling Unit (Sec 513) to your property on Block Island.
Application Part 1:
Part 1 of the application process will cover basic information about your interest and plan for adding an accessory dwelling unit to your Block Island property.
Based off the information you share, we will determine if you are eligible for a grant. There is no guarantee or assurance that you will receive a grant simply by submitting an application.

Acknowledgements
- I certify that all of the information submitted by me on this application is true and complete.
- I understand that if my Part 1 application is approved, there is a more detailed Part 2 application process which will be provided to me.
- In addition, I understand there is no guarantee or assurance that I will receive a grant from BIHI and any grant amount, not to exceed 20% of construction costs or $50,000, will be in the sole discretion of BIHI.
- I acknowledge that if I am offered a grant, it is expressly and fully conditional on the accessory dwelling unit being fully approved by the Zoning Board and it being occupied.
- I acknowledge that if I am offered a grant, receipt of such grant will be contingent upon my execution of a Grant Agreement outlining the terms and conditions of the grant.
- I acknowledge that if I am offered a grant, such grant represents an item of gross income subject to federal, and applicable state and local, income tax.
- I agree to provide a certification of construction costs paid upon request from time to time.
Town of New Shoreham 513 Accessory Dwelling Unit Application
The homeowner of the property will have to apply for a Residential Accessory Dwelling Unit as part of the Zoning Ordinance Regulation 513.

This application must be submitted to the Town of New Shoreham Zoning Official.
